Fish Cutlets

Sri Lankan fish cutlet is a party time favourite among locals and most popular Sri Lankan savoury snack. This can contain a spicy fish filling or vegetable filling.

¾ lb. boiled fish free from skin and bone

½ oz. green chillies

4-6 potatoes boiled

2 oz. onions

½ teaspoon pepper powder

1 sprig enduru or curry leaves

1 teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon cummin powder

batter and bread crumbs

oil for deep frying


Chop the onions and chillies and curry leaves.

Pass the fish potatoes through fine mincer.

Heat 1 dessertspoon oil in a pan, add onions, curry leaves and fry till light brown.

Add fish and potatoes.

Add paper, salt and cummin mix well.

Divide into 16 portions.

Flatten out and shape into cutlets.

Dip in batter crumb.

Allow to rest for a few minutes before deep frying in hot oil.
